PILL PAPER COPY FOR JULY 2009
PARISH COUNCIL NEWS
Parish Playing Fields and Football Pitches - Brookside. This is leased by the Parish Council from North Somerset, with the school having the use of it as required during school hours. It contains the Play pod, around which the Play Rangers base activities for the 8 to 14 age group on Wednesday afternoons during term time from 3.30pm to 6.30pm and for longer hours in the day during school holidays. It is an ideal site for more general community use at other times. If any community group wishes to book it for an organised activity (free!), they should contact Julie Smart, the Parish Clerk, at the Parish Council office or on 374442. It is important that any litter is taken home.
Hardwick Road - The Parish Council has now arranged for this area to be maintained and kept tidy on a regular basis. Any suggestions for improvements to the play equipment, and offers to help fundraise for new equipment, will be gratefully received.
Watchhouse Hill and Ham Green - The Parish Council owns the football field at Ham Green and is in discussion with North Somerset about taking over the management of the pitches on Watchhouse Hill. The Council is reviewing its arrangement with St Georges Senior and Junior Football Clubs about the use of the pitches. If any other groups would like to book either area for an organised activity, they should contact the Parish Clerk. Any litter should be put in the bins or taken home. The Multi-Use Games area can be used at any time, but if an organised activity is planned this should be notified to the Friends of Watchhouse Hill via the Resource Centre.
EON Biomass Power Station - Residents should have had invitations to the exhibition in June at St George's Hall about this proposed development at Royal Portbury Dock. The Parish Council has now had two presentations and discussions with EON, and a visit to a similar (but smaller) power station in Lockerbie. Councillors can see the benefits of this sustainable means of power provision and has had most of its concerns about the finished product met. However, we still have considerable concerns about the highways and access implications, particularly during the lengthy construction stage.
Parish Council Vacancy - After many years active service on the Council, for which the Council is grateful, Glenis Jones has decided to resign, leaving a vacancy. If no election is called, the Council will be able to co-opt. If anyone is interested in being considered for co-option or wants more details they should contact the Parish Clerk. It should be pointed out that, at the moment, the Council is very male dominated!
Meetings in July - The Finance Committee meeting is on 13 July at 7pm in the Resource Centre, and the full Council meeting is on 27 July in the Community Centre, beginning with Public Participation at 7pm.
