PILL PAPER COPY FOR JANUARY 2009

PARISH COUNCIL NEWS

Pill Resource Centre  For the past two years the Parish Council has made a grant to the Pill Resource Centre to help with its financial situation. This is now being taken a further stage as the Centre was in danger of having to close owing to insufficient funds. For the next financial year, and hopefully for a longer period, the Parish Council will pay for all the premises-related costs. This will enable the Resource Centre to continue functioning, but with volunteers running it. In exchange for this, from January 2009 part of the Resource Centre will also be the ………..

Parish Council Office  The office will be staffed by Julie Smart, the Parish Clerk, who will be based there for several hours each day, and publicly available “at the front desk” at set times per week. The exact hours she will be there are yet to be confirmed, as there will be certain amount of “trial and error” for the first week or two. The Parish Council telephone number will remain the same (374442) as will the email address -   eigparish.council@btinternet.com

The Parish Council is very pleased to be able to ensure the continuation of the Resource Centre, and looks forward to a successful partnership arrangement.

Brookside  Councillors are grateful to the majority of dog owners who are now using the fenced footpath around the side of the field, and hope that “peer pressure” can be brought to bear on the one or two who are not co-operating. Councillors are aware that, for many years before the Parish Council took over responsibility for the playing field a few months ago, the field had not been properly maintained and the fence was down. Dog owners therefore, understandably became used to exercising their pets across the field, but a long-ignored sign (still there – but soon to be replaced!) made clear the intention to keep the main field, which was not technically a public open space, a dog-free area. The Parish Council now wants to encourage the further use of the playing field by the community in addition to the current use by the Play Rangers. Crockerne Primary School also have first refusal on its use in school hours. For these reasons we may ask for the field to become subject to a legal dog ban, depending on whether the voluntary requests we have made so far are successful.

Parish Council Donations In addition to the contribution towards the Christmas Lights agreed earlier in the year, The Council has been pleased to make a donation of £750 to the Crockerne Swimming Pool Fund and £100 to the Woodspring Association for the Blind, which is used by members of our community. In addition we have made a grant of £1000 to enable several of our young people to take part in two Survival Weekends at Goblin Coombe.
