PILL PAPER COPY FOR FEBRUARY 2009
PARISH COUNCIL NEWS
Millennium Sundial Work on refurbishing the Sundial in Victoria Park may well have begun by the time you read this, thanks to a grant from YANSEC and local donations. A list of donors will be made in the next Pill Paper.
Parish Council Office The Office has now opened in the Pill Resource Centre. Julie Smart, the Parish Clerk, is in the office on Monday to Wednesday from 9.30 until 12.30 and from 1.30 until 3.30. On Thursday she is there from 9.30 until 12.30 and from 3.30 until 6.00. The office will usually be open on Saturday mornings from 10.00 to 12.00. The Resource Centre is open at all the above times, plus Thursday afternoons from 1.30 until 3.30 when messages can also be left for Julie. As announced in the last Pill Paper, the Council’s email address and telephone number remain the same as before.
Police Matters The Parish Council now meets bi-monthly with the local police. The meetings are open to the public. At the last meeting on January 8th the Council very much welcomed the reduced crime figures and particularly the fact that there were no crimes reported in the parish over Christmas or the New Year. It was also reported that increased patrols in the St Katherine’s Park estate had resulted in much reduced nuisance. The next meeting will be in the Resource Centre at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday, 5th March.
Proposed Biomass Energy Plant Following the proposal by E.ON for a Biomass Energy Plant at Royal Portbury Dock, a presentation was made to the Parish Council. Following this, two Parish Council representatives visited a similar Plant in Lockerbie in Scotland. As a result, the Parish Council at this stage feels able to support the plans, as they are satisfied with the position, the environment-friendly aspects and the likely benefits. However the Council will continue to ensure at future meetings that concerns about traffic impacts are taken into account. It is understood that a series of local public exhibitions on the proposal are planned in the near future.
Christmas Lights Having provided some financial support, the Council would like to thank the Lights Committee for the wonderful display of Christmas Lights this year, particularly with the addition of the tree at Pump Square as well as the one on Victoria Park.
