BACK Pill Paper 2009

PILL PAPER COPY FOR DECEMBER

PARISH COUNCIL NEWS

Updates on…..

  1. The Mosaic behind the Spout. There’s just an outside chance that this will have been completed by the Christmas Lights switch on on the 5th December. If this is the case look out for posters about an official opening at 5 p.m. just before the Lights event starts.
  2. Brookside. The order has now gone in for three pieces of equipment – a “Stiltshouse”, a “Zip Wire” and a “Jungle Swing” – funded by the Playbuilder scheme. It is hoped they will be in place by the February half term. Pictures of the equipment can be viewed at the Resource Centre.
  3. Longshore. Following last month’s Pill Paper, a small working group of local residents has been set up to help keep an eye on the area. We have agreed that one bonfire a year can be held there on or near 5th November. Signs will be going up soon explaining a little more about the status of the area.

Extra Car Parking Space  We are currently in negotiation with the owners of the former coal yard at the end of Monmouth Road to lease the land as a car park. We are considering using it as a controlled parking area where people can book a space, either for some of the transit vans being parked around the village or for domestic cars. Anyone interested in booking a space should contact Julie Smart at the Parish Council Office in the Resource Centre (374442).

Donations to local groups  Donations have been made as follows. Pill Pool Committee; £100. Royal Briitish Legion Poppy Appeal; £50. St. George’s AFC; £164 towards a new gate. Forest of Avon; £100. Avon Wildlife Trust; £50. Christmas Lights Committee; £470.

It should be noted that the Community Forum now undertakes some of the financial support to groups previously provided by the Parish Council.

Eon BioMass Power Station Proposal The Parish Council has agreed to support this proposal in principle, but only if major steps are taken beforehand to improve Junction 19 of the M5 and if strict conditions on environmental matters are set and enforced. The full Parish Council response can be viewed at the Parish Council Office or on the website – www.easton-in-gordano.org.uk

And finally…  a very Happy Christmas to all in the community from the Parish Council.
